At JourneyPacks.org, we believe that every child deserves to feel secure, valued, and loved, especially during times of transition. Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: to provide foster children with essential and comforting items as they navigate through the foster care system.
How It all Started
The Need for Support
Foster children often face daunting statistics that highlight their need for support:

Substance Abuse: Studies show that foster children are at a higher risk for substance abuse. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, about 50% of foster children will have substance abuse issues at some point in their lives.

Homelessness: Approximately 20% of foster youth will become instantly homeless after aging out of the system, as reported by the National Foster Youth Institute.

Incarceration: Data from the National Conference of State Legislatures indicates that nearly 25% of former foster youth will be incarcerated within two years of aging out of the system.

Education: Only 50% of foster youth graduate from high school, and less than 3% earn a college degree, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

These statistics underscore the urgent need for safety nets and support systems to help foster children overcome these challenges and build better futures.

The inspiration for JourneyPacks.org came from a small act of kindness. Often people consider foster kids as overlooked. Unfortunately, many witnessed a youths entering foster care with nothing but a plastic bag to hold their belongings. This poignant moment highlighted the emotional and practical challenges that foster children face.
